  • Option 1: Miyakojima only (3–4 days)
  • Option 2: Ishigaki + Iriomote combo (3 + 2 days)
  • Option 3: All 3 islands (best for 7+ day trip)
Note: There are no direct flights between Miyako and Ishigaki. Transfers must be made via Okinawa Main Island (Naha), which can take several hours.

👉 Personal Tip: We don’t usually recommend Option 3 for families with kids. Inter-island transfers can be time-consuming and tiring. Instead, spending several days on one island lets you truly relax and enjoy the experience. Miyakojima, especially, is perfect for slow travel with kids, thanks to its private villas, resort hotels, and convenient city area.

Planning your stay?
Here are our top family-approved hotels – all personally reviewed with kids!

Reserve rental cars early, especially during busy seasons. Island rentals can sell out fast.

Rent cars on each island—especially with kids! It gives you flexibility and comfort.

Book accommodations early if visiting during school holidays (late July to end of August in Japan)

If you’re traveling with young kids, staying at a resort with on-site amenities can make a big difference. Some hotels offer baby beds, kids’ meals, and even free beach toys. Also, local supermarkets on Miyako and Ishigaki are great places to stock up on snacks and daily necessities—ideal for longer family stays.

Still deciding? Think about your family’s travel style—beachy, foodie, or nature-loving. Each island has something unforgettable.
