Miyako Island Itinerary: 4 Days

Day 1: Drive around Miyako Island

Itinerary summary of 4-day Miyako Island stay with driving, activities, snorkeling, and shopping.

We arrived in Miyako Island by direct flight — the most convenient way to get here.
There are direct flights from major cities in Japan, including Tokyo (Narita and Haneda), Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka.
You can also fly via Naha, Okinawa, but we recommend booking a direct flight if available — they’re popular and fill up quickly!

Driving around Miyakojima: views from Irabu Bridge, Kurima Bridge, and Shiratorizaki Viewpoint.

Miyako Island is connected to three smaller islands—Irabu, Kurima, and Ikema—by bridges, making it easy to explore by car. The island is compact enough to drive around in a single day, which was perfect for our family road trip. We packed our day with scenic stops, local eats, and beach views without feeling rushed.

Private villa in Miyakojima with poolside BBQ, perfect kitchen, ocean view, and cozy living space

We stayed at a private villa with its own pool—and it turned out to be even bigger than we imagined! Our daughter was absolutely thrilled and spent hours splashing around. We had brought a giant inflatable shark, only to find out the exact same one was available to rent at the villa! They had tons of rental gear, from pool floats to beach toys, so honestly, you could arrive with just your swimsuit and still have a great time. Dinner was a poolside BBQ featuring juicy Japanese wagyu beef—easily one of the most memorable meals of the trip.

🌊 Day 2: Miyako Island Snorkeling Plan

Day 2 Miyako Island itinerary: breakfast, fishing and snorkeling at Yabiji Reef, dinner with live island music.

On Day 2, we joined an optional boat tour to Yabiji Reef—since it’s only accessible by boat, we had booked in advance.
The weather forecast had predicted rain, so we were a bit worried… but to our surprise, the skies cleared and we were blessed with perfect sunshine!
The coral reef was absolutely stunning—some of the most beautiful we’ve ever seen. It was one of those magical travel moments we’ll never forget.

Fishing tour: tuna preparation, Gurukun catch, and captain’s seafood rice bowl.
Group snorkeling in shallow waters at Aragusuku Beach, Miyakojima.
Restaurant with live Okinawan music performance and traditional decor.

After the boat tour, we headed into Miyakojima’s downtown for dinner at a lively izakaya featuring live island music.
We enjoyed delicious Okinawan dishes and awamori cocktails while soaking in the energetic atmosphere.
The live performance by the band Akagaara was the highlight of the night—ranging from upbeat folk tunes to soulful ballads.

And just when we thought it couldn’t get any more entertaining, Mamoru-kun made a surprise appearance during the encore, and we couldn’t stop laughing!
If you’re looking for a fun and unforgettable night out in Miyako, this izakaya is our top pick—you’ll definitely want to come back again.

🐢 Day 3: Beaches & Relaxation Itinerary

Day 3 Miyako Island itinerary: snorkeling at Aragusuku Beach, visit to Honey Garden, and shopping downtown.

On our third day, we drove to one of Miyako’s many snorkeling beaches.
This time, we visited Shinjo Beach, but the island is full of great spots like Yoshino Beach—each with its own charm. There’s so much variety that even repeat visits never get boring.

After snorkeling, we stopped by a hidden gem called Shinjo Honey Garden for a treat. Their honey-topped vanilla ice cream was absolutely delicious!

For lunch and a bit of shopping, we headed to Michi-no-Eki Miyako (Miyako Roadside Station). The Okinawa soba there was surprisingly tasty and great for a casual family lunch.

We ended the day with a comforting dinner of Agu pork shabu-shabu—a perfect way to wind down after a fun-filled day in the sun.

Day 4 – Wrap Up Your Miyako Trip

Day 4 Miyako Island itinerary: check out, Yuni-no-Hama sandbar tour, somen noodles, shopping, and flight home.

On our last day in Miyakojima, we checked out early to join a morning boat tour to Yuni-no-Hama, a stunning sandbar that only appears at low tide.
It was the perfect final adventure—walking on clear, shallow water that felt like stepping into a dream.

Before heading to the airport, we squeezed in a little more local flavor with one last Miyako gourmet stop.
We also picked up some fresh mangoes and pineapples as souvenirs—something sweet to look forward to once we got home.

Though we were sad to leave, we felt completely recharged. This trip gave us memories we’ll talk about for years.

uni-no-Hama feels like walking on water.
If you join the morning tour, you might just have the entire sandbar to yourself—it’s peaceful, magical, and completely unforgettable.

Miyako Island gourmet treats: mango soft serve, mango shaved ice, somen noodles, and acai bowl.

We tried Miyako Somen, which came with a set of six different dipping sauces.
Each one had its own unique flavor, but our favorite was the mackerel-based sauce—so rich and savory!

Afterward, we stopped by a mango farm café near the airport. It was the perfect spot to relax and grab a sweet treat before our flight—super convenient for killing time before check-in.
